Liverpool Transfers: 5 Better 'Keeper Options Than Al-Habsi

Barcelona rumoured to be interested in securing his services he could well be on his way out of Anfield this summer. If Reina does return to Spain then Liverpool will have to go about the herculean task of replacing one of the best goalkeepers of the last ten years. The Daily Mail is reporting that after being priced out of a move for Stoke's Asmir Begovic, Brendan Rodgers will make a move for Wigan's Oman International, Ali Al-Habsi. Al-Habsi has been a first choice Premier League goalkeeper since 2006, first with Bolton Wanderers and for the last 3 seasons with Wigan and in that time he has proven that he is an excellent shot stopper with good positioning. That said, at 31 years old he is older than Reina and Wigan are likely to hold out for as much money as possible; I think Liverpool have better options, both long and short term and I will share them with you now.

5. Tim Krul - Newcastle United

Krul Newcastle's number one came to prominence last season with a string of superb performances in Newcastle's excellent season, which saw them qualify for European competition for the first time in 10 years. His agility and shot stopping are just two of the qualities that have made him one of the most admired young goalkeepers in the country and are also two qualities that liken the Dutch International to Reina himself. His performances in the Premier League have also seen him take over from Martin Stekelenburg as the Netherlands first choice goalkeeper under new manager Louis Van Gaal. He is likely to cost a fair amount judging by his age, but with the money Liverpool can command for Reina then that should not be a problem and in Krul they will get a reliable, confident and talented goalkeeper with a good ten years at the top left in him.
