Liverpool Transfers: Is Daniel Sturridge REALLY The Right Man?

of just £6 million. Following the closure of the summer window, Liverpool fans had to then put up with the rumours of signing a free agent such as Michael Owen, Alessandro Del Piero or even Emile Heskey. But now is a chance to repair the problem that has been building since August and buy a striker. Liverpool need goals, and their owners have vowed to cough up the necessary funds to a reasonable extent. Daniel Sturridge is the names on everyone€™s lips. Rodgers has gone public in admitting that Liverpool want to complete their signings quickly and it has been suggested that Sturridge has already completed a medical and is set to join as soon as possible in a £12 million deal. No question about it, Sturridge will score goals. However some, like myself, are not convinced €“ I think Sturridge is definitely set be set to joining Jordan Henderson, Stewart Downing and Andy Carroll on the €œENGLISH, OVERPRICED AND RATHER AVERAGE€ list. Some may argue that Sturridge has a bit more about him than those three players, and will cost a little less too. No one can doubt the fact that Sturridge has ability €“he€™d shown this from a young age in his time at Manchester City; in 2008 he became the first player to score in the FA Youth Cup, the FA Cup and the Premier League, and, in 2009, he was voted the Young Player of the Season by the Manchester City fans. In addition to this, he notched 8 goals in 12 appearances in a very impressive loan spell at Bolton Wanderers in 2011, which, along with a strong pre-season the following summer, saw him secure a first team place under new coach Andre Villas-Boas who hailed him to have fantastic technique and pace, comparing him to highly-rated Brazilian striker €˜Hulk€™. Yet, despite this, Sturridge was dropped under previous manager Roberto Di-Matteo and then has failed to win back his place as of yet in Benitez€™s plans. It has become no secret that his attitude might play a part €“ Sturridge might be a bit too big for his boots. He previously announced that he€™d like to fill Didier Drogba€™s vacant role as a central striker and even managed to compare himself to Thierry Henry. Rumour has it that he€™s demanded a central striker role if Liverpool are to sign him. And, once scoring a goal, Daniel Sturridge will celebrate with an excruciatingly cocky dance. Either that, or he€™ll act like he doesn€™t care, shrugging his shoulders and pulling a care-free facial expression, attempting to project charisma like the great Eric Cantona. Rather strange for a player that hasn€™t quite made it yet. Recent reports have even suggested that Chelsea have paid him £1.5 million to leave the club. So that draws the question- if Liverpool are ambitious as Rodgers reflected last week in stating that they€™ll be aiming for a top-two finish (no, I€™m not joking)... then why buy a player who Chelsea are keen to rid off? Liverpool fans, who thought their transfer horrors would be no more when Dalglish was sacked, might now be in for a repeat experience. What do you think? Will Sturridge be a flop or does he present good value for money? Have your say below.
