Liverpool Transfers: Reds Odds On To Land James Milner

Man City outcast might be next for Brendan Rodgers.

As the end of the summer transfer window edges ever nearer, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is still looking to make one or two additions to his squad, as they prepare an assault on both the Premier League and Champions League in 2014/15. With the likes of Dejan Lovren, Javier Manquillo and Alberto Moreno bought in to bolster the defence, and central midfield options boosted by the signings of Emre Can and Adam Lallana, the only real area the Northern Irishman is probably looking at strengthening now is wide areas and up front. According to SkyBet, the Reds are now 10/11 favourites to sign Manchester City utility man James Milner, who invariably occupies a wide attacking role but can also flourish in central midfield or at full-back. The 28-year-old's versatility is certainly something that would appeal to Rodgers, while his endless running and hard work make him ideal for Rodger's high-pressing style. Milner's first-team chances at the Etihad appear to be growing more and more limited, with most of his appearances these days coming as a second-half substitute. With top class talent like David Silva, Samir Nasri and Jesus Navas ahead of him in the pecking order, it's hard to see this changing. In truth, the former Leeds youngster would probably have to settle for a fairly similar role at Anfield. Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho are the undoubted starters either side of Daniel Sturridge in 4-3-3 formation at the moment, and with Lallana to come back from injury and Lazar Markovic a supposed superstar in the making, Milner would be far from guaranteed a regular starting berth. The addition of the Champions League could give him more playing time, however, with Rodgers having to rotate his squad smartly throughout the season. MIlner is 5/2 to join former club Aston Villa, 6/1 to move to Sunderland and 7/1 to head to London and sign for Arsenal. Would you like to see James Milner at Liverpool?
