Man City 4-2 Watford - 5 Things We Learned From FA Cup Thriller

5. City Lack Strength In Depth At The Back

In yesterday's narrow win over the Hornets, Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini opted to play Martin Demichelis and Joleon Lescott at centre-back - and it did not work out. The duo were given a torrid time by Fernando Forestieri and Troy Deeney, Demichelis rendered a spectator after Deeney's pass bamboozled him to find Forestieri to net Watford's first. And Demichelis was at it again for the visitor's second, when his mistake allowed Sean Murray, Forestieri and Ikechi Anya to combine to send Deeney clear for another. Lescott meanwhile is surely only second, maybe even third-choice at centre-half and there has been much speculation that he will move on this winter and join Aston Villa. And the truth is, City only really looked composed at the back when Vincent Kompany came on in the second half, pushing Demichelis aside into defensive midfield. The Citizens have been linked with a number of centre-back signings this month and may have to make a couple before the window shuts because they lack strength in depth in this department.
