Man City: 4 Manager Short-List To Replace Roberto Mancini

4. Arsene Wenger

Arsene-Wenger Perhaps an interesting choice, but with many filling the Emirate's terraces calling for the Frenchman's head, Arsene Wenger may fancy his chances, and indeed relish, at a club with a realistic chance of winning trophies- a change for him! With Manchester City spending a lot of money on a new youth centre a stone's throw away from the Etihad, Wenger may well be a good fit considering his proven record for bringing youth players through Arsenal's system- Cesc Fabregas, Jack Wilshere and Wojciech Szczesny being three of the many- and this may well be a very important string in Wenger's bow, a string which may lead to the Frenchman being one contender on the owner's list. It is also being rumoured that, after the appointment of ex-Barcelona characters Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain to the board of Manchester City, the Lancashire club are looking at a change of playing style and mentality, one which they hope to be, unsurprisingly, similar to that of Barcelona. Now, most people who have watched the talented Arsenal sides of the past will have noticed distinct similarities in the style of play of both the perennial European contenders, and Wenger would be a damn sight cheaper that appointing Bayern-bound Pep Guardiola. The added factor that the ex-Monaco manager knows the Premier Division and all that goes with it like the back of his hand would mean that a new manager would not need a time to settle in and would not, for example, have difficulty communicating with the media and staff through a language barrier. Wenger will know the players to watch, and will know how to set his side up to break teams down, a quality which a manager who has never managed in England would struggle to do immediately.
