Man City 6-3 Arsenal - Defeat "Difficult To Swallow" Admits Arsene Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger conceded his side's crushing 6-3 defeat to Manchester City was "difficult to swallow" as his side missed the opportunity to move 8 points clear at the top of the Premier League. The Gunners could have asserted control at the top and would have been 9 points clear of their hosts with a win, but goals from Sergio Aguero, Alvaro Negredo, David Silva, Yaya Toure and a brace from Fernandinho consigned them to a damning defeat. The frustrated Arsenal boss said in his post-match press interview:
"We had an opportunity to put Manchester City at 9 points and they are three tonight, so, that's very difficult to swallow because they weren't unbeatable today."
The Gunners scored three times with Theo Walcott helping himself to a double and Per Mertesacker heading in late on, but even that wasn't enough to stop a rampant City, who move into second. Defeat means Arsenal's poor record against the Citizens continues, having only won one of their last six league and cup games going into this encounter. And though they may still be top tonight, the manner of this loss raises huge question marks over their title ambitions, having taken just a point from their last two league games. Next up is Chelsea, at home, as the busy Christmas schedule continues.
