Man City Transfer News: Vincent Kompany Wanted By Monaco

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany is wanted by French side Monaco in the New Year, according to the Express. The Belgium international was on the radar of the free-spending club over the summer, while Barcelona maintained an interest, however neither side made a concrete offer for the 27-year-old. Kompany's season has been wrecked thus far by injury, limiting the defender to just two full appearances, but Monaco are undeterred and will make their interest formal when the January transfer window opens. Reports on the continent indicate last season's Ligue 2 champions are looking to shore up their defence. Since being promoted into Ligue 1, manager Claudio Ranieri has already splashed the cash on attackers such as Radamel Falcao, and will now look at bolstering his side by tightening them up at the back. City will be keen to keep their star man and inspirational skipper and Monaco will therefore have to spend big to persuade them into selling, but money is no object for the ambitious French side. Backed by the Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev, £146 million was spent on summer signings this year, as the Red and Whites look to become the new dominant force in French football.
