Manchester United and Barcelona will face each other yet again in pre-season this year, with both clubs looking to prove a point before the start of the new campaign. The two clubs have agreed to the friendly match which will take place on August 8th in Gothenburg, Sweden and the match will no doubt showcase the new signings for both teams.
Manchester United and Barcelona have met several times in the last few years, including in the 2009 and 2011 Champions League finals, as well as a semi-final in 2008.
With players from both clubs having played in their Euros, much of the squad will be resting over July although when August the 8th comes around both teams will hope all players are fit and ready to start the clubs pre-season campaigns. Although Manchester United may miss out on Ryan Giggs and David De Gea who are both players scheduled for the Olympic games.
United’s pre-season is clearly made to get the best out of the players, with Red Devils set to play in Norway, Sweden, South Africa and China.
Chief executive David Gill said:
“Manchester United against Barcelona is one of the top fixtures in world football and we are delighted to work with GotEvent to bring this match to the beautiful city of Gothenburg. We have a large following throughout Scandinavia and it’s great that this match will form part of our preparations for the new season.”
The two teams met in last years pre-season on the 30th July in Washington DC which led to a 2-1 win for Manchester United.
