Man Utd 1-1 Swansea City: Van Gaal Changes Formation, Rooney Scores

Dutchman changes to 4-4-1, and Wayne Rooney almost immediately profits.

With Javier Hernandez leaving the pitch at half time to be replaced by Portuguese winger Nani, Louis Van Gaal has done the unthinkable and abandoned his 3-5-2 formation that he spent pre-season building for a 4-4-1 system. Phil Jones has moved to right back, Ashley Young is at left-back and Nani and Januzaj are playing wide. And not long into the second half, the change paid off with Wayne Rooney hitting the net from close distance to cancel out Ki's opener with an improvised acrobatic effort: https://vine.co/v/M3ZKvVH3Lgm After putting in 12 crosses without any success in the first half, United put a cross in from Mata and Phil Jones flicked on for Rooney at the back post. The game is beginning to get scrappy with Taylor and Shelvey yellow carded in the minutes leading up to the goal.
