David Moyes received his marching orders a year to the day since Man Utd lifted the Premier League title. The Chosen One has quickly become the Unmentioned One and United are once again looking for a new manager. Moyes broke scores of records during his brief spell in charge at Old Traffor but, unfortunately for the Scot, they were for all the wrong reasons. A dismal league campaign, coupled with early FA Cup and Champions League exit, ultimately cost Moyes his job and he was sacked just one year into a six year contract. After only 295 days in the job Moyes' numbers make for grim reading. United fans look away now...
10...Months At The Theatre Of Nightmares
Moyes officially began his tenure as United manager on 1 July 2013, almost two months after he had been announced as Ferguson's successor. Questions were raised at the time about why it had taken him so long to begin his new role. This unnecessary delay allowed United's rivals to steal a march on the Red Devils and snap up players early, ultimately leading to a farcical summer in the transfer market and the last gasp panic purchase of Marouane Fellaini.
9...Games Before It Began To Fall Apart
United were beaten by numerous teams during Moyes' time at the helm but the first defeat to send shock waves through their confidence came in late September. A 2-1 home defeat to West Brom marked the Baggies first victory at Old Trafford since 1978 and the ease with which Morgan Amalfitano waltzed past United's ageing defenders set alarm bells ringing.
8...Wasn't The Magic Number
Juan Mata's transfer from Chelsea to United in January was seen as a major coup for Moyes. After the previous summer's transfer debacle there was general agreement that Mata was exactly the type of player needed to raise the profile of the Scot's struggling squad. Unfortunately Moyes was never able to get the best out of Mata. The Spaniard was often deployed out on the flank instead of in his favoured No.10 role. Moyes struggled to accommodate Mata, Rooney, Januzaj and Van Persie in the same starting line up and subsequently the diminutive midfielder did not perform as many fans might have hoped.
