Man Utd 2-1 Liverpool - Match Report

Match report for Manchester United v Liverpool 13/01/2013.

th minute, after Robin Van Persie met Patrice Evra€™s fizzing low cross and guided it past Pepe Reina from 12 yards out. And the Dutchman could have doubled his tally for the afternoon on 27 minutes, after some good work from Ashley Young found him free in the box, but his first time effort sailed innocuously over the bar. Luis Suarez saw his shot €“ Liverpool€™s only one of the first half €“ sail over the bar, before Tom Cleverley missed the chance to double his side€™s lead, blasting his volley agonisingly wide. Sir Alex€™s side missed their best chance to extend their lead just before half-time; after Van Persie€™s cute back-heel was swept off the line by Martin Skrtel. United finally got their second on 53 minutes, after Skrtel was booked after sending Danny Welbeck tumbling. Van Persie€™s free kick was met by an on-rushing Evra, whose header was deflected in off of Nemanja Vidic. Liverpool responded quickly however, and reduced the deficit within four minutes when half-time substitute Sturridge pounced on a loose ball after De Gea spilled a typically powerful Steven Gerrard effort from outside the area. Shinji Kagawa forced the best out of Reina with a curled shot, before Liverpool piled on the pressure through efforts from Sturridge, Glen Johnson and substitute Fabio Borini. But Liverpool failed to convert any of their chances, and United held on to their slender lead and chalked up their fourth straight Premier League win, and further enhanced their chances for a 20th league title.
