Di Maria helped Real win their tenth Champions League crown last season but has stalled contract negotiations with the Spaniards, with claims in Madrid that he is being too greedy. United have been keeping a close eye on the winger's situation but are thought to value the Argentina international at closer to £30 million. Di Maria himself is understood to have reservations about joining the Red Devils as they will not be in Europe next season following a disastrous season under David Moyes. But sources at Real are confident that a deal can be agreed after deciding to test the market for the midfielder, who is also wanted by Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus. The European champions hope to use the money generated from Di Maria's sale to fund a move for Monaco's James Rodriguez, star of the 2014 World Cup. United have already spent £60 million this summer on midfielder Ander Herrera and left-back Luke Shaw, but Di Maria's capture would be an even bigger statement of intent for new manager Louis van Gaal. Di Maria has impressed at the World Cup, scoring Argentina's extra time winner against Switzerland on Tuesday to help his side reach the quarter finals.
