Man Utd Transfer News: £25 Million Ander Herrera Bid Rejected

Express. According to reports in Spain, the English champions made the offer last night as manager David Moyes goes in search of his first notable signing of the summer transfer window. The 24-year-old impressed against the Red Devils 18 months ago and was an integral player in the Bilbao team that knocked the Premier League outfit out of the Europa League. However, his club are unwilling to sanction a deal, while Herrera reportedly has a £30 million release clause inserted in his contract, which runs until 2016. Speaking at a press conference, club president Josu Urrutia, said:

"We have had an offer for Ander Herrera. "Our club is different, it is based on sentiment. Our objective isn't to make money. "We received the offer last night and have communicated that we will not negotiate for our players."
With Bilbao unwilling to green-light the move, Urrutia suggested the player would have to force through the issue by telling the club he wants to leave. He continued:
"For a player to go, first the player must express his desire to leave the club and pay the release clause."
United's interest in Herrera comes as they appear to have missed out on a number of other midfield targets, having had bids for Cesc Fabregas and Marouane Fellaini rejected so far this summer. The Red Devils are looking for a long-term replacement for Paul Scholes, who retired from football at the end of last season. So far, the club's only signing in this transfer window has been 20-year-old Uruguayan fullback Guillermo Varela from Atletico Penarol.
