Man Utd Transfer News: Gareth Bale Coud Join In January?

Manchester United are monitoring developments surrounding Gareth Bale and may make a sensational bid for the midfielder in the New Year, according to the Metro. The Wales international only joined Real Madrid from Tottenham for a world record fee less than two months ago but since then, has found times tough at the Bernabeu. The 24-year-old has suffered from a series of niggling injuries following the blockbuster move, while his poor run of form, which has seen him score just one goal in six appearances this season, has also been called into question by supporters. The ex-Spurs ace was hooked off during the second half of Madrid's disappointing defeat to Barcelona at the weekend, and club president Florentino Perez is already coming under pressure for sanctioning such a huge fee on the player. United are thought to be watching developments closely, having been interested in signing Bale over the summer but ultimately failing to compete with the money Real offered at the time. According to reports over the weekend, the English champions are hoping Madrid will be tempted to cut their losses next summer, if Bale continues to fail to make the grade. New manager David Moyes and chief executive Ed Woodward are desperate to land a "marquee signing" after failing to land any of their top targets in the last transfer window.
