Man Utd Transfer News: Juventus In Shock Patrice Evra Bid?

Evra signed a one-year contract extension in May, but Juventus haven't given up hope of landing the left-back.

Media Image LtdMedia Image LtdJuventus are set to make a shock bid for Manchester United's veteran left-back Patrice Evra, according to talkSPORT. Evra only signed a one-year contract extension at Old Trafford in May but the Italian giants are refusing to give up hope of landing their man, and have taken encouragement from the fact the Premier League side have recently signed Luke Shaw from Southampton. That means Evra could face limited playing time at the club next season, and Juve want to use that to their advantage by luring the fullback to Italy with the promise of regular playing time. However, having sold Alexander Buttner to Dynamo Moscow already this summer, United will be desperate not to lose Evra, and would be left with no cover at left-back should the Frenchman move to Italy. Manager Louis van Gaal has very few defensive options as it is, having also allowed Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic to leave the club. The final decision could however be taken out of van Gaal's hands if Evra decides he wants to be playing regular football as he enters the final few years of his playing career, and the versatile defender may no longer be happy with playing a bit-part role at the Theatre of Dreams.
