Man Utd Transfer News: Wayne Rooney Exit Latest

"was not keen to play" in the club's final home game of the Premier League season yesterday afternoon. The England star was completely omitted from the squad that defeated Swansea City 2-1 at Old Trafford on Sunday and it was later confirmed the ex-Everton player had put in a transfer request, which the champions have rejected. Ferguson remarked:

"I don't think Wayne was keen to play, simply because he has asked for a transfer."
When pressed yesterday on whether the player would still be at United next season, Ferguson replied dryly in the wake of his side being presented with the Premier League crown - "It's not my decision now." However, the veteran Scotsman, who is retiring after more than 26 years in charge of the club after United's final game of the season away to West Brom, had earlier confirmed to Sky Sports that the club would not be letting go of Rooney. But the Englishman's future in Manchester is looking more and more uncertain and this is now the second time he has asked to leave. The first time was in October 2010, days before he performed a spectacular U-turn and agreed a new five-year deal, which still has two years left to run. It will now fall to new Red's manager David Moyes - who handed the player his professional debut in 2002 as an Everton teenager - to convince Rooney that his future remains at Old Trafford. Moyes will take over at United on July 1.
