Man Utd Transfer News: Wayne Rooney To Submit Transfer Request?

Independent. Since his appointment at the club, Moyes has gone out of his way to publicly placate Rooney in an attempt to pour cool water over the claims he is about to leave the club. The former Everton manager has told the England international that he could become a club legend by overtaking Bobby Charlton as United's all-time top goalscorer, and has insisted the 27-year-old is not for sale. However, it is Moyes' comments in Bangkok that have infuriated Rooney, leaving him feeling dejected and confused as to his role in the English champion's squad. At the weekend, Moyes is quoted as saying that €œif for any reason we had an injury to Robin we€™re going to need him .€ That has left the player feeling he is at risk of becoming a €œsecond-choice squad player€ next season, with the striker frustrated enough as it is having last season been deployed in an unfamiliar midfield role. A source close to Rooney warned that the player considered himself to be €œat the peak of his career€ and had €œno intention of letting that career go backwards€ as a squad or second-choice player. With United continuing to publicly insist the striker is not for sale, Rooney will have to put in a transfer request for the second time in three years if he is to leave Old Trafford this summer.
