Man Utd Transfers: 10 Deals That Should Happen In January

How to rebuild the former Champions.

Manchester United and Louis van Gaal spent roughly £150million on players last summer in a bid to propel the wounded club back to the peak of English and European football. Considering the Dutchman made such an expensive start to his tenure at Old Trafford, you could be forgiven for predicting he might be slightly more quiet during the January window. Clubs often use the winter period to add their missing link or plug holes in an injury-stricken squad, and as United sit eight points off the pace in the Premier League, they could definitely benefit from taking a similar approach. Van Gaal definitely has some work to do with his team €“ particularly at the back €“ if he expects his side to finish near the pointy end of the Premier League table come May. The Dutchman has been criticised for building an excessively top-heavy side with the likes of Radamel Falcao, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie all vying to get their name on the team sheet each week. It looks mouth-watering on paper, but this situation sounds more like a Football Manager 2015 virtual conundrum rather than a real-life scenario. With so many top defenders and well-organised back fours in England, the topflight is simply too competitive to win through raw firepower alone. Van Gaal must seek to add depth in midfield and defence to have any chance of leading United back to the heights achieved under Sir Alex Ferguson. However, the new Financial Fair Play restrictions mean clubs usually must sell in order to buy and it seems United are prepared to follow that general rule. Here are 10 players who could come or go from Old Trafford this winter...
