Man Utd Transfers: 10 Signings Louis Van Gaal Should Have Made

Louis van Gaal's Manchester United were the most active British club in the transfer market, but not everyone's happy.

The summer transfer window slammed shut on Monday evening with spending by Premier League clubs hitting record highs. Teams in England's top division spent £835 million - putting the £630 million spent this time a year ago in the shade - with Manchester United the most profligate English side in the market. United spent £150 million on new recruits over the summer, the highest ever gross spend by a Premier League club. They broke their own transfer record to secure the services of Angel Di Maria, who arrived for a British transfer record £59 million, while the Red Devils also shocked everyone on deadline day by signing AS Monaco's Radamel Falcao on loan. Other additions to the side were left-back Luke Shaw, who became the most expensive teenager in the world following his £27 million move to Old Trafford, while Ander Herrera, Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind also joined. This summer was United's most active spell in the transfer window ever and signalled a dramatic change in club policy. But not everyone's happy. Though United landed a "marquee name" in Falcao, many felt more pressing issues went unaddressed, with the Red's failure to adequately strengthen their defence and midfield worrying some fans. The Manchester club missed out on a series of targets who could have dramatically improved the squad in these areas, and here we take a look at 10 signings manager Louis Van Gaal should have made.
