Man Utd Transfers: 11 Signings Louis Van Gaal Must Make Immediately

11. Arjen Robben

Current Club: Bayern Munich Immediately following the speculation that Dutch manager Van Gaal was about to be announced as the new United manager, another intriguing rumour surfaced, suggesting that his first move would be for his compatriot and former Chelsea winger Arjen Robben. Though the 30 year old now has his youth behind him, his experience, both in the Premier League and in the Champions League would make the £25m mooted transfer fee (as suggested by the Sun) a sound investment, particularly as the Dutchman has a couple of years left on his newest contract in Munich, where he remains an important player, though reports from ESPN suggest that he is set to be offloaded to facilitate strengthening. The relationship between player and manager already exists, since Robben already plays under Van Gaal for Holland, and the pair were together at Munich before Van Gaal's move to international football, and it could prove a profitable dynamic for the Old Trafford side. The Dutch pair combined to dump United out of the Champions League in 2010, and though he is now 30, Robben has lost little of the direct attacking play that has defined his career, with his style perfectly suited to the demands of the Premier League.
