Man Utd Transfers: 4 Players Sir Alex Still Desperately Needs To Replace Tonight

3. Jonny Evans

Jonny Evans Though Rio Ferdinand has enjoyed something of a revival in form in recent weeks, leading to calls from some quarters for an England recall, he is not the future of Manchester United. Along with Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and even Michael Carrick, United have an aging spine, and though they have invested quite heavily in the likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones, they haven't proved to be quite as solid an answer to the question of the team's defensive future as some fans might have expected given their cost. But both Jones and Smalling have time on their hands to develop - it is Jonny Evans who represents the weakest link in the defence at the minute. He is prone to accidents, can get dragged out of position, and he looks far from a potential Champions League winner at times - which must still be Sir Alex's intentions in future years while he remains in the job. It's often said that Sir Alex rarely lets any real talents leave United, even on loan, and it is perhaps the best indication that Evans has already spent time temporarily away from Old Trafford.
