5. Leighton Baines
One area that United desperately need to strengthen in this summer is at left-back. Patrice Evra, who turned 32 in May, has lost that yard of pace and was at times a liability during a campaign that saw the Premier League champions keep their
worst defensive record in 11 years. Evra has also been linked with a
move back to Monaco - the French club he joined the Red Devils from back in 2006. An adequate replacement for him should he leave, or a decent defensive reinforcement even if he stays, is Everton's Leighton Baines. United have already had an opening bid for the England international, understood to have been in the region of £10 million, rejected by the Toffee's but
are expected to make an improved offer. The Merseyside outfit are holding out for £20 million for Baines, who would add some defensive stability to United's squad should he follow Moyes to Old Trafford.
