Man Utd Transfers: 5 Players Who Should Go On Loan In 2013/14

5. Alex Buttner

Dutchman Alexander Buttner was something of a surprise signing last summer, being a relatively unknown left back from Dutch mid-table side Vitesse Arnhem. Though he€™d been in his country€™s preliminary side for Euro 2012, he ultimately didn€™t make manager Bert van Marwijk€™s final squad and remains uncapped at senior level to this day. Scouts must€™ve seen something in the left back, however, and the attacking full back made an attempt to justify his signing with a goal in his debut league appearance against Wigan Athletic. Since then, however, he has displayed occasional rashness at the back, leading some fans to question whether he is out of his depth in the Premier League. Though going forward he seems comfortable, it does seem apparent that the Dutchman needs to hone his defensive skills in a more competitive league than the Dutch one that he is used to in order to succeed at United, particularly as it seems likely that Leighton Baines may make the trip from Everton to Old Trafford, furthering competition for the left back spot.
