Man Utd Transfers: 5 Reasons Why Wayne Rooney Isn't Right For Chelsea

Reports of his imminent departure from the playing ranks of Old Trafford have been flying about since he was purposely dropped for United's final game of the season in May, having handed Sir Alex Ferguson in a transfer request. However, with David Moyes proving as incapable of settling the England star as the previous incumbent, the hounds have been baying at the gate, with Chelsea the clear front-runner in the race to secure the signing of the Liverpudlian. So, is he the right signing for Chelsea? And, is this the right place for England's top striker to move? With the move to Chelsea looking increasing likely, here's 5 reasons why he shouldn't make the move to Stamford Bridge this summer.

5. Less Regular First-Team Football At Chelsea

jose mourinho With an improving Hernandez, and a prolific Van Persie to compete with, one could argue Rooney's opportunities to play at striker look increasingly limited in Manchester. However, this particular situation barely improves at Chelsea. José Mourinho has one £50 million striker Fernando Torres on his books, who remains a world-class striker despite his recent woes in front of goal. He also boasts two other star strikers at the peak of their goal-scoring prowess; the exciting Romalu Lukaku, who scored 17 league goals on loan at West Brom last year, and Demba Ba, a mid-season signing from Newcastle, who powered in the goals for the struggling Tynesiders. It's hard to imagine that Mourinho will want to lose any of these players, and a squad rotation system similar to the one employed by Manchester City in recent seasons looks on the cards should Rooney make the move south. The result is likely to mean a lot of time on the bench for Rooney; one of the reasons he wants out of United in the first place!
