On paper, Wayne Rooney is the second-best striker at Manchester United, behind Robin Van Persie. Last season, with an entire side built around a lone striker, he found himself
on the wing a lot of the time, playing a support role to the Dutchman. However, things have changed at United. Alex Ferguson has departed, and fellow Scotsman David Moyes is in, Rooney's boyhood manager. If Moyes decides to play two strikers upfront, Rooney could find himself playing a full season as striker for the best team in England. Also, if Van Persie,
who has a tendency to get injured, picks up a serious affliction during the season, the England frontman will be automatically become the first-choice striker. Naturally, this is all speculation, but with no strikers signed by Moyes over the course of the summer, it's hard to imagine Rooney will be deprived of game-time in his favourite position at striker. It's also difficult to envisage Moyes taking the Ferguson approach, and putting Rooney on the wing again for another season. Rooney was the second top-scorer in 2011-12, and it can't be a stretch for either himself or the manager to see the benefit of a two-pronged strike-force. Speaking of whom...
