Though their league table has improved in recent months after the disastrous tenure of David Moyes, the Red Devils are still far from the finished product under Louis Van Gaal, and they continue to look vulnerable through defensive midfield and the heart of their defence with David De Gea having to play out of his skin at times. That has to change if the Dutch manager has his eyes on a strong top four finish, and a title tilt next year, and it can't all come down to tactical reinvention. Right now, the United squad should still be considered as under construction, even with tens of millions invested in the summer. There are some serious areas of development, and Van Gaal undoubtedly needs to add more goals (especially if the last hours of the transfer window prove problematic in defensive terms). Quite how the manager will prioritise remains to be seen, but he should be aware that his side famously do a lot of significant business in the last hours of the window, even as fans grumble about the lack of business concluded this January.
