Man Utd Transfers: Why Marcos Rojo Is Perfect For Van Gaal's Revolution

Finally another break-through in the transfer market.

After much back-and-forth between the Argentina international and his former club Sporting Lisbon, Marcos Rojo has taken the plunge and made a "dream" move to Old Trafford, concluding some much-needed transfer business on the English giants part. The deal appeared to be more complicated than first planned, with Sporting choosing to discipline their player for refusing to train due to the defender's plain desire to take on the new challenge of the Premier League. Comfortable both at left-back and in a more central defensive position, Rojo provides passion and desire - though yellow cards may well be a begrudging factor of the Argentine's game. Showcasing his offensive ability during the World Cup, where the 24-year-old spent time gallivanting up and down the left-hand side and delivering teasing crosses, Rojo put to bed the fears that he would be one of the weaker links in Alejandro Sabella's starting line-up. Strong in the tackle and standing tall enough to be an imposing central defensive presence, the flexibility which Rojo brings to Louis van Gaal's plans is refreshing. While accustomed to a back four domestically, wing-back is also a possibility, given the width that he was asked to provide for Argentina during the recent tournament in Brazil. Gritty and determined enough to come out on top in physical battles, the athleticism and left foot guarantee that there can be a final ball to the defender's game too. In a transitional period of Man United's development under Van Gaal, as the Dutchman tries to piece together a system which he is happy to field, Rojo's ranging abilities make it easy to why the Red Devils moved in to secure a target who had a very promising World Cup. While the Argentine will bring some fight and grit back to Old Trafford, it wouldn't be surprising to see him rack up a few assists should he fill in on the left-hand side when required.
