Man Utd Transfers: Red Devils Confirm Blind Capture

Dutchman's deal done for £13.8 million.

Manchester United have confirmed the £13.8 million capture of Daley Blind from Ajax. United agreed a fee for the defensive midfielder on Saturday but paperwork has held up the move up until tonight. Blind agreed personal terms and underwent a medical over the weekend and the transfer has now been made official. The 24-year-old played under United manager Louis van Gaal for the Netherlands at this summer€™s World Cup and played all seven of his country€™s games at the finals in Brazil, helping the Dutch team to the semi-finals and then a third-place finish, starting all-but one of those matches. Blind is a product of Ajax€™s youth academy and made his first-team debut in 2008. He is the son of Danny Blind who also played for the Dutch club and played in defence. Daley is expected to play a central-defensive midfield role at Old Trafford but can also play at left-back and centre-half. He is United€™s fifth summer signing, following in the footsteps of fellow defenders Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo, along with midfielders Ander Herrera and Angel Di Maria. His transfer pushed the Old Trafford club's summer spending over the £143 million mark, though the Red Devils have also agreed a loan move for Radamel Falcao, with the Monaco forward€™s arrival set to push that total over £150 million.
