Man Utd Transfers: Van Gaal Wants £67m Hummels And De Bruyne

Another deadline day, another big chunk of cash spent?

Despite this winter transfer window being uncharacteristically slow in terms of money spent, there are some big moves in the pipeline for the movers and shakers at the top of the Premier League. Chelsea are likely to sign Juan Cuadrado, Liverpool are looking at Danny Ings and Tottenham want Delle Ali, but Man Utd might be about to trump everyone by spending a massive £67m on two major European talents. According to the Express, United are plotting a sensational deadline day double swoop for ex-Chelsea star Kevin De Bruyne who is at Wolfsburg, and Borussia Dortmund's Mats Hummels. With his side broken into the top four and looking to cement some strong performances this season with some more defensive steel (something they've missed badly at times), and a bit more bite in midfield, Louis Van Gaal is ready to spend some of his reported £150m kitty on the pair. He's already spent a lot on Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao and their signings will only be justified if the club make it into the Champions League. De Bruyne has blossomed since joining Wolfsburg from Chelsea just a year ago, despite failing to get a chance at Stamford Bridge. If he did sign, his last act as a Bundesliga player would be his impressive two goal haul against Bayern Munich on Friday in a 4-1 win. He would likely cost £30m, and Wolfsburg have already almost signed a good replacement in the shape of Andre Schurrle. Hummels meanwhile has been United's priority for some time: Dortmund don't want to sell their captain especially with their dismal league form in mind, but Van Gaal is a motivated buyer and will apparently test their resolve again with a late take-it-or-leave-it bid of £37m. Would you be happy with these two signings? Share your thoughts below in the comments thread.
