Man Utd Transfers: Wayne Rooney Wants To Stay At Old Trafford?

Wayne Rooney wants to stay at Manchester United - and the club are ready to open talks once they have sealed the deal for Juan Mata, according to the Mirror. Rooney is out of contract in 18 months and United plan to sit down and thrash out a new deal with their star man, but not before Mata's move to Old Trafford is completed. Mata has agreed terms with the Red Devils on a four-and-a-half year contract and is expected to finalise his move to the English champions upon undergoing a medical today. And United boss David Moyes plans discussions with Rooney at some point thereafter to keep the 28-year-old out of the clutches of Mata's now-former club Chelsea. Mata met with Blues boss Jose Mourinho on Wednesday while the rest of the squad trained and it was agreed on both parts that it was the right time for the 25-year-old to leave. The Spain international's father, Juan Snr., is now in England to complete the finer details of the £37 million move, which represents a club-record fee for United. It was reported yesterday that Mata's arrival at the Theatre of Dreams would have no bearing on Rooney signing a new contract, though it appears he's now more likely to pen a new deal.
