Man Utd Transfers: Yohan Cabaye Is Cesc Fabregas Alternative?

Daily Star. New United manager David Moyes wants to bring in two new midfielders this summer and Fabregas is the priority. The Premier League champions lodged an opening offer of £26 million for the Spain international earlier this week. Everton's utility man Marouane Fellaini is also being tracked by the Red Devils. But United's pursuit of Fabregas appeared to take a nosedive yesterday when Barca manager Tito Vilanova stated the former Arsenal captain wants to stay at the Nou Camp. The Reds could now turn to Newcastle United's Cabaye instead, who is also on the radar of French duo Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco. PSG boss Laurent Blanc got under Magpies' manager Alan Pardew's skin recently after speaking publicly of his admiration for Cabaye. It is understood Wigan Athletic's James McCarthy has been identified as a replacement for the France international if he quits Tyneside. If United want Cabaye, they will have to compete with two of the continent's richest clubs in PSG and Monaco, who have been European football's biggest spenders this summer. Signed from Lille two summer's ago for £4 million, Newcastle are likely to recoup five times that fee with a potential sale of Cabaye, now valid at more than £20 million.
