Man Utd vs Real Madrid - 5 Reasons Why Los Blancos Are In Decline

5. Poor Transfers & Mismanagement Of Available Talent

Modric Some of the signings Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho made in the transfer market last summer proved to be not quite so successful. The former Chelsea manager was keen to add to a squad which had only recently won the La Liga crown, and when he signed Luka Modric from Tottenham, many thought the Croatian would be the perfect addition to his midfield. However, Modric has bombed since arriving at the Bernabeu in a £33 million deal. He has only found the back of the net once and was even voted "worst signing of the season" in Spain last year. Mourinho has also mismanaged the stars he has available in his squad. He has one of the strongest benches in European football with the likes of Kaka, Ricardo Carvalho and Jose Callejon all parking their rear ends on it, and he isn't making proper use of any of them. Kaka, a former FIFA World Player of the Year, has been used increasingly sparingly at the Bernabeu and has made only 13 appearances in all competitions this season. It is amazing that Mourinho values the likes of Ozil and Di Maria ahead of him, especially considering he's a Champions League winner and still a quality player.
