Man Utd vs Wigan: Team News, Match Preview & Likely Line-Ups

Venue: Wembley Stadium Date: Sunday, August 11 K/o: 14:00 BST

Manchester United take on Wigan at Wembley Stadium on Sunday in the Community Shield.

Team News

Manchester United are likely to be without Wayne Rooney for Sunday's Premier League curtain-raiser against Wigan Athletic in the Community Shield. The 27-year-old has missed the majority of the champion's pre-season campaign and did not feature in Rio Ferdinand's testimonial against Sevilla on Friday. Javier Hernandez is expected to take his place, while new signing Wilfried Zaha will likely get a run-out. Defender Jonny Evans and winger Nani are expected to miss out after limping off against AIK Solna on Tuesday, while midfielder Darren Fletcher is continuing his recovery from a serious bowel condition. Wigan could hand a debut to new signing James McClean, who has become the Latic's 10th summer signing after joining from Sunderland. However, fellow new signing Thomas Rogne is out with a back problem, though Leon Barnett and Emmerson Boyce have impressed during pre-season and will likely retain their places in Owen Coyle's side. Grant Holt will lead the line for his new club after dropping down a division from Norwich, with Marc Antoine-Fortune likely to be demoted to the bench. Gary Caldwell (hip) and Ivan Ramis (knee) will be out until at least October. (Source: Sky Sports)
