Manchester City Transfer News: Mancini Set For Summer Clear Out
The Guardian are reporting that several key players are set to leave as City look to rebuild their squad for next season.
Manchester City will embark on a clear-out of players at the end of the season. Carlos Tevez, Gareth Barry, Edin Dzeko and Samir Nasri head a group of 11 whose futures are in doubt, with Roberto Mancini determined not to repeat last summer's mistakes in the transfer market.This could come as a shock to many Man City fans as the likes of Barry and Dzeko have played a part this year but Mancini clearly wants to bring in more quality. Last summer the club failed to secure any of their lead transfer targets and he can't afford to make any of the same mistakes in that department. Joleon Lescott who has fallen out of favour this year and slipped down the pecking order could also be going out the door, as well as Kolo Toure, Santa Cruz and Wayne Bridge whose contracts are all set to expire in the summer, up to eleven players could leave in total. The overhaul is all part of the plans put forward by Citys new Chief Executive and Director of Football, who want a younger squad. The two were part of the revolution at Barcelona and their project at City could spell the end for many senior pros. A lot of these players can perhaps have no complaints as the likes of Tevez have vastly underperformed this year and their exit could free up space in the squad to go get the big signings in. After a year when City finished bottom of their Champions League group and seem to have handed the title back to United, they could be in for a busy summer as they look to really challenge next year. Of late City have been linked with a lot of new players, including the likes of Victor Wanyama and Cavani and attracting players like these could be key.
