McClaren Eyes Reunion With Man Utd Starlet At Newcastle

Is Lingard Tyneside-bound?

Newcastle United are monitoring Jesse Lingard's situation at Manchester United, according to reports. ESPN FC claim that Steve McClaren wants to be reunited with a player he took on loan to Derby County last season on Tyneside. He can operate as an attacking-midfielder or a striker. A Man Utd youth product, Lingard has been touted by onlookers for several years as a future England international midfielder - and he has been consistently linked to Newcastle this summer.
Capped 11 times by the Under-21s to date, Lingard has failed to break into the Man Utd first team - instead spending time on loan at Leicester City, Birmingham City, Brighton & Hove Albion, and latterly Derby. McClaren used Lingard 12 times during the latter half of the 2014-15 season, having signed him on loan on deadline day in February, and was a key component of the Derby side. An attacking-midfielder with an eye for goal, Lingard has yet to fully develop as hoped - but a move to Newcastle could really help the 22-year-old progress. Lingard also rose to the occasion to score England's winner against Sweden after coming off the bench on Sunday - proving he can net timely goals.
