TONY Mowbray knows he needs to land a goal scorer if his team are to realistically challenge for a top six finish this season, after squandering a hatful of chances. Blackpool€™s 100% record has now come to an end after late drama at The Riverside. Chris Basham€™s late strike wasn€™t enough for the visitors who thought they had stole the three points. Boro€™s Dutch hitman Marvin Emnes cancelled out Basham€™s goal in injury time. Boro handed home league debuts to three of their starting eleven; Frazer Richardson, Albert Adomah and Jayson Leutwiler, who has already been at the club for a year. Neither side could settle in the opening exchanges; but a neat Grant Leadbitter crossfield ball found Mustapha Carayol. His trickery presented him with an opportunity, however he couldn€™t test the keeper with his tame shot. Blackpool€™s only chance in the first half, fell to the feet of their striker Steve Davis. He managed to create space, despite being surrounded by the home side€™s backline; Boro stopper Leutwiler was equal to it. Both Boro and Blackpool fans then united to cheer their former player Gary Parkinson, in a pre-planned minute of applause in the 25th minute. Parkinson has been suffering from locked-in syndrome after suffering a stroke. Neither team threatened their opponents€™ goal and the teams went into the break at 0-0. Middlesbrough€™s left hand side were the only source of forward momentum throughout the game. George Friend and Carayol interchanged well, but Friend couldn€™t get a shot away, after a gut-busting run from full back. The introduction of Marvin Emnes brought the game to life, after two smart parries from Adomah crosses, Gilks watched a Leadbitter header go miles over. Ghanaian international Adomah continued to be a pest down the Boro right. His cross found Lukas Jutkiewicz but a smart turn and shot went wide of the Blackpool net. Blackpool thought they had stole it in the dying embers of the game. A shoddily dealt with Ferguson free kick was put in at the back post by Chris Basham. But it was Boro who had the final say, Marvin Emnes sent one past the sprawling Gilks in the Blackpool goal, with the final kick of the game. Boro have a trip to division newcomers Wigan next Sunday, where they€™re looking to add to the three points they have already taken on the road. Blackpool meanwhile host Reading at Bloomfield Road next Saturday.
