Newcastle 0-3 Man Utd: 6 Key Things We Learned

Despite beating Bordeaux 3-0 at St James Park on Thursday, Newcastle United were defeated 0-3 at home to Manchester United in front of a packed-in 52,000 plus crowd, thanks to two headed goals from defenders, and a fortunate cross-shot from Cleverley that missed his intended target but sailed into the net over Steve Harper's head. The game was a scrappy affair at times, with 8 yellow cards given by Howard Webb, who was roundly booed by the home crowd for missing a couple of decisions early on, and for his tendency to produce cards too easily - especially in terms of his booking of Cheick Tiote which particularly angered the crowd. But both sides played some reasonable football in periods, with the Reds more clinical and more clever on the ball. Newcastle now have to wait two weeks before their eye-catching derby game against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, while Manchester United line up against Stoke City at Old Trafford almost 24 hours before-hand, and both teams will be able to take something away from yesterday's game for those upcoming games.
