Newcastle Aim To Sign "Another Player" Before Southampton Opener

The Magpies are determined to strengthen further ahead of the Premier League campaign .

Newcastle United are looking to sign "another player" before they kick off their Premier League campaign against Southampton at St James' Park next weekend. The Chronicle claim that, despite the Magpies having already signed three senior players and being close to bringing in Ivan Toney from Northampton Town, they still want another at least another before their 2015-16 campaign gets underway. Queens Park Rangers forward Charlie Austin remains at the top of their wanted list but, should they fail to win the race for the 18-goal hitman, they will still aim to recruit another striker.
A winger and another defender are also a priority, particularly due to the fact the Magpies conceded 61 Premier League goals last season - the second highest in the entire Premier League. Georginio Wijnaldum, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Chancel Mbemba are the three players who have already been acquired by the Magpies during this window - with Toney likely to follow - but Newcastle are nowhere near done with their transfer business. Head coach Steve McClaren, managing director Lee Charnley and owner Mike Ashley are determined to avoid a repeat of the relegation-threatened 2014-15 campaign this time out - and that means significant investment still needs to be made.
