Newcastle And West Ham Receive Boost As David Moyes Grows Frustrated In Spain

Could Moyes swap San Sebastian For Tyneside?

Newcastle United and West Ham United have both been handed a boost as they search for new managers with reports emerging that David Moyes is growing increasingly frustrated with the Real Sociedad board's position on recruitment. Moyes wants significant investment to be made in his Sociedad squad this summer but the club's hierarchy are stalling on a commitment to do so - meaning the Scot may decide to walk away from the role this summer. Spanish newspaper AS even claim that Sociedad president Jokin Apperibay has warned Moyes that he will only be able to recruit three or four players to add to a squad who finished 12th in La Liga - despite the ex-Everton manager wanting to see a complete overhaul so he can challenge for Europe next season.
And, should he leave Sociedad as a result of this disagreement, then Newcastle, West Ham and even Sunderland would be ready to pounce and sign up the former Manchester United boss. Moyes but he would certainly a positive appointment should the Magpies be able to prise him away from Spain. Newcastle have been without a permanent head coach since Alan Pardew left for Crystal Palace at the turn of the year, with John Carver taking over the reins on a caretaker and then interim basis. After 11 extremely-successful years at Everton - where he led them to regular top-six finishes despite operating on a modest budget - Moyes took charge at Old Trafford in the summer of 2013 but failed to win anything or qualify for the Champions League during his first season.
Having been sacked last April, he took charge at Sociedad in November and has overseen 10 wins from his 31 games in charge, leading the club to 12th in La Liga. A manager with Premier League experience and who performed admirably on a consistent basis despite having a small budget at Everton, Moyes has a career win ratio of 44.12% (368 wins from 834 games) - and he realises he is unlikely to get an opportunity with one of the English big boys again. The Newcastle job could therefore prove tempting - even if he would have to work under Mike Ashley's restrictions.
