Newcastle Are Set To Bid For European Championship Star

The Magpies are preparing a £7 million offer in order to bolster their defence.

Newcastle United are ready to make a £7 million offer for Werder Bremen's Jannik Vestergaard, according to the Metro.

The Denmark International has been watched by Magpies scouts over the summer and has also gathered attention from Everton who are bracing themselves for John Stones' departure.

The 23-year-old is currently valued at around £7 million and reports claim that both sides will compete against each other in order to sign the 6ft 6 centre back.

Vestergaard joined Die Werderaner during the January transfer window but is keep to sign for a Premier League club in order to further his development.

The player was signed from Hoffenheim for £1.8 million and played 15 times after his move.

The Danish International featured 15 times since his arrival at Bremen during the turn of the year and scored one goal.

He also captained Denmark throughout the European U21 competition this summer and proved himself as a talented, mature centre-back as well as a natural leader.

The 22-year-old scored in his side€™s opening game of the tournament against Czech Republic and was a constant threat in the opposition box using his tall frame to his advantage.

Italian media outlet,Tuttomercatoweb report Newcastle have sent scouts to watch Vestergaard in action over the past few months and are now ready to place a bid for the player.

The German domestic season starts again this Sunday and Vestergaard played the full 90 minutes and extra time as Werder Bremen overcame Wurzberger Kickers in their DFB cup-tie last weekend.

Newcastle United are desperate to add some height to their back four as Chancel Mbemba and Fabricio Coloccini evidently struggled against Southampton striker Graziano Pelle during their first Premier League fixture last Sunday.
