Newcastle Demanding An Eight-Figure Sum For Tim Krul

Spurs are sniffing around our number one... but Magpies look to resist offers below £10 million.

Newcastle are hoping to ward off interest from Tottenham for Tim Krul by demanding an eight-figure sum for our Holland international goalkeeper. Krul was heavily linked with a switch to White Hart Lane over the weekend and the 26-year-old is reportedly open to leaving St James' Park after eight years in order enhance his international prospects after narrowly scraping into Louis van Gaal's World Cup squad. And Newcastle have responded to the rumours by slapping a "prohibitive" £10 million price tag on Krul's head in the hope that it will dissuade new White Hart Lane boss Mauricio Pochettino - who is braced to lose Hugo Lloris to Paris Saint Germain this summer - from making a bid. From our perspective £10m would represent a fantastic deal on Krul given he cost us a measly £170,000 in compensation when he arrived on Tyneside from ADO Den Haag back in 2006 and we've nurtured him into one of the best shot-stoppers in the Premier League. https://twitter.com/AdamClery/status/481355342681759744 Mike Ashley has taught us to second guess every word or gesture made by his 'pound-for-pound' Newcastle United and we're dubious as to how tight their resolve to keep Krul will be if Tottenham are willing to match his valuation. But we know that Ashley isn't the type of owner to turn his nose up at a substantial profit and Krul, despite being considered indispensable by Alan Pardew, could be the latest asset to be stripped from the Black and White tapestry. In the event that he does leave Newcastle. will need to source a replacement and we've suggested these FIVE goalkeepers as potential successors to Krul.
