Newcastle Look To Force Deal For English Attacker

Steve McClaren is hoping to sign Leeds midfielder Alex Mowatt but may have to wait until January.

Newcastle are attempting to sign Leeds midfielder Alex Mowatt before the end of the transfer window, according to the Mirror.

Steve McClaren was hoping to sign another player before the end of the day but Whites' owner Massimo Cellino is apparently unwilling to sell the 20-year-old.

Mowatt who can play as a central midfielder or on the wing scored nine Championship goals last season and is thought to be valued at £8 million.

Due to Cellino's reluctance, the Magpies may have to renew their interest in January as the summer transfer window closes in the next seven hours.

Mowatt has two years left on his deal and Leeds are keen to tie him down on a new deal - along with fellow Newcastle United target, Sam Byram.
