Newcastle Midfielder Signs New Contract And Then Moves To Wigan

Haris Vuckic has been given a new contract by NUFC but will play in League One this season.

Newcastle United midfielder Haris Vuckic has signed a new contract at Newcastle United but will be loaned out to Wigan Athletic for the remainder of the current season, according to Sky Sports.

Vuckic was impressive during his loan spell at Rangers in the Scottish Championship last season and was linked with Greek champions Olympiakos during the summer.

A side who feature in the Champions League on a regular basis were keen on taking Vuckic to Greece, yet the Magpies could not even find a place in their struggling squad for the midfielder last season.

Vuckic was extremely impressive throughout his time in Scotland - with the 22-year-old Slovenian international having scored nine goals and contributed three assists in 18 matches from attacking-midfield.

Since moving to Rangers on transfer deadline day in January, the midfielder has once more struggled to find a place in Steve McClaren's squad but a new contract offer implies that the Magpies still feel Vuckic is worth holding onto.

The report was made by Sky Sports' Keith Downie who is reporting on all the latest news from Newcastle's Benton Training base during transfer deadline day.
