Newcastle Prepare Part-Exchange Offer For Brighton's Top Scorer

And he's a centre-back...

Newcastle United are finally looking to add goals to their defence - by targeting Brighton & Hove Albion€™s top-scorer from the 2014-15 campaign Lewis Dunk, according to reports. In fact, The Daily Mail claim that the Magpies are contemplating offering one centre-back in part-exchange for another - by trying to use Mike Williamson as a makeweight in a deal for the £5 million-rated defender. Dunk might be a centre-back but he scored seven goals for the Seagulls last season, two better than former Magpies winger Kazenga LuaLua, meaning he was the club's top scorer. And, despite Brighton having rejected a £4 million offer from Fulham for the defender earlier in the summer, The Daily Mail suggest Chris Hughton could be willing to part with Dunk if he can be reunited with Williamson on the south coast. The Magpies have suggested in recent months that they will alter their transfer policy this summer in order to bring in a greater proportion of British talent, and the 6ft 4in Englishman would certainly fit the bill. Dunk made 43 appearances in all competitions and netted seven times, and he is also a former member of England€™s Under-21 squad - although he never actually made an appearance for the Young Lions. To date, Dunk has made 113 career appearances for both Brighton and while on loan at Bristol City and has netted seven times - all of which came last season for the Seagulls.
