Newcastle Target Move For Real Madrid Midfielder

McClaren is looking at yet another reunion...

Steve McClaren is hoping to be reunited with a player he took to Derby County on loan from Real Madrid last season - by bringing Omar Mascarell to Newcastle United. The 22-year-old midfielder made 30 appearances on loan at the iPro Stadium in 2014-15 and McClaren was impressed by what he saw from Mascarell. And, although Derby would like to be bring Mascarell back to the Midlands, both Newcastle and Spanish side Deportivo La Coruna are competing for his signature, according to HITC Sport.
Born in the Canary Islands, Mascarell was snapped up by Real's youth side at the age of 17 from CD Laguna de Tenerife. Representing Real Madrid Castilla and the club's "C" side, Mascarell made 87 appearances between 2011 and 2014, scoring 10 times. After appearing once for the Real first team against Osasuna - as well as gaining a solitary Spain Under-2010 cap in 2013 - McClaren was able to convince Mascarell to move to the Rams on a season-long loan deal last season. Derby's downturn in form last season directly coincided with Mascarell's injury too, and the midfielder is well known to new Rams boss Paul Clement, who was Carlo Ancelotti's assistant at Real. So will Mascarell return to Derby - who have first option on a permanent deal - or could he be running out at St James' Park next season instead?
