Newcastle Transfer News: Luuk de Jong Set For Magpies Medical

Borussia Monchengladbach striker Luuk de Jong is set to undergo a medical at Newcastle, according to his club and Sky Sports sources. De Jong has not started a game for the German side since April last year and has fallen well down in the pecking order at Borussia Park. The 23-year-old is a long-term target for the Magpies, though, who tried to sign him back in 2012 during his days with FC Twente, though ultimately missed out to Monchengladbach. The Bundesliga club paid Twente £12 million at the time but the move has not worked out and De Jong now looks set for a move to the north east. Borussia announced via their Twitter account that the Netherlands international is no longer training with them and was set to travel to England for his medical. De Jong, who has scored three times in seven appearances for Holland, and still hopes to make their World Cup squad, is believed to by flying into the country today. He is then expected to undergo a medical with Newcastle within the next 24 hours, when it is hoped he will agree personal terms and sign for the St James' Park club. Magpies manager Alan Pardew has been on the look-out for a new forward with question marks surrounding the long-term future of on-loan striker Loic Remy.
