Newcastle Transfer News: Magpies Eye Reading Winger Tarique Fosu

Newcastle United will do battle with Aston Villa for the England Under-18 winger.

Newcastle United are scouring the Championship for fresh talent as they look to avoid another relegation battle next season - with Reading winger Tarique Fosu top of their summer shopping list. The England Under-18 winger has only just made his first tentative steps into the first-team squad at the Madjeski Stadium but he has already caught the eye of Newcastle's chief scout Graham Carr. According to The Guardian, both Newcastle and Aston Villa are keen to prise 19-year-old Fosu away from Reading and bring him into the Premier League. Fosu only made his Reading debut on the final day of the 2014-15 Championship season, but he put in a breathtaking performance against Derby County - and effectively quickening the sacking of former Newcastle managerial target Steve McClaren. After starting the game on the bench, Fosu came on to the pitch at the half-hour mark and helped lead Reading to an impressive 3-0 victory over the Rams. Interestingly, Fosu was also a member of the Reading Under-21 side who claimed the first-ever Premier League Cup in 2013-14. In fact, he scored the winner against Manchester City in the second leg of the final. For all the latest NUFC News, Views and Transfers make sure to follow WhatCultureNUFC on Twitter and Facebook.
