Newcastle Transfer News: Magpies Target Patrick Bamford Offered New Chelsea Deal

Newcastle United will still hope to take Bamford on loan next season despite the potential deal.

Newcastle United still retain hope of signing Patrick Bamford on loan next season despite the on-loan Middlesbrough striker being offered a new five-year deal at Chelsea. Although the Blues have moved to secure Bamford's future, Jose Mourinho is believed to be willing to let the 21-year-old go out on loan to gain Premier League experience next season - with Newcastle, Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Everton and, if they are promoted, Boro waiting in the wings. The forward has netted 19 goals while on loan at Middlesbrough this season and will look to fire them to Wembley by ensuring they turn their 2-1 first-leg play-off lead over Brentford into an overall victory on Friday night.
Mourinho even visited Brentford's Griffin Park last week to watch Bamford during Boro's first leg - and the Portuguese boss was impressed by what he saw. The Times claim a new long-term deal have been offered to Bamford, but the Middlesbrough loanee will likely wait until the end of Boro's season before making a decision on his future. Having started his career at Nottingham Forest, Bamford moved to Chelsea in 2012 and has enjoyed loan spells at Milton Keynes Dons, Derby County and Boro since. The twice-capped England Under-21 international has netted a total of 48 goals in 112 career matches to date, an impressive record for someone who can play as a striker or as a wider forward.
