Newcastle Transfer News: Magpies To Make January Bid For Alfreo Finnbogason

The Journal. The 24-year-old emerged as a target for the Magpies earlier in the summer but failed to arrive at St James' Park after a frustrating transfer window of inactivity for manager Alan Pardew and director of football Joe Kinnear. French striker Loic Remy, who has joined the club on loan from Queens Park Rangers, was the duo's only signing after recruitment efforts at the North East club fell by the wayside. Since the closure of the window last Monday, Pardew's only public utterance has been a club-sanctioned statement last week while Kinnear is thought to be out of the country as the dust settles on a summer of frustration. Both will be hoping for better luck when the window re-opens in January, with Newcastle expected to renew their interests in Finnbogason. The striker was offered to the Magpies by Dutch outfit Heerenveen earlier this summer for a fee of around £5 million. Instead, the Toon club opted to look elsewhere but, having missed out on their desired targets, are prepared to go back in for Finnbogason, who has something of a prolific strike rate. The Icelandic international has hit 30 goals in 35 appearances for Heerenveen since signing from Lokeren last year.
