Newcastle Transfer News: Magpies Want Celtic's Kelvin Wilson?

Wilson Newcastle United are lining up Celtic's giant centre-back Kelvin Wilson as a possible replacement for Fabricio Coloccini, according to the Mirror. The Argentine defender looked certain to leave St James' Park in the January transfer window, and although manager Alan Pardew was able to talk him down from a move, fears continue to grow over his long term future. Coloccini wants to go back home to Argentina, citing "personal reasons", while Wilson has shone for Celtic this term. The 27-year old was watched in action at St Mirren yesterday by Newcastle's top scout Steve Stone, and could leave for as little as £5 million. He joined the Scottish champions from Nottingham Forest on a free in 2011 and has put in some fine performances for the Hoops this season, particularly throughout their brave run in the Champions League. Now Pardew has earmarked him as a replacement for Coloccini, who still looks destined to leave the club. He had eyed up a move to San Lorenzo despite having penned a new Toon contract last year, but when the Argentine outfit failed to stump up the funds for the move, he ended up staying put in England - for the time being at least.
